Engine Tag

The engine number of my BN1 is on a plate inside the car.  I can't find a
number-plate on the engine.  It appears that there is a place for a plate
between and below the two middle spark plugs.

Was there originally an identification plate on the engine?  Where does it go?
Where do I acquire a blank  plate?   How is the plate held in place?
