I too have paid the price of admission to this school.
The cost of pursuing this, even if you have excellent documentation showing
the owner knew the condition of the car, even if the seller is a most
reputable dealer and even if you have a good attorney, do not waste your
money pursuing such efforts in court. Your odds are much better at the
roulette wheel in 'Vegas.
My story is much more frightening than anything you have conveyed, including
a well known Mercedes dealer, a fire and a trial all in the famous
California city of Santa Monica.
As to specific actions, in California, you can force a dealer to take a car
back within a few days of the sale.
Contact the Motor Vehicle departments in the respective states and ask their
advice. Anything beyond the motor vehicle department is more money than the
repairs.
Spending money on repairs at least contributes to your hobby, and if I may
say so, to a worthy car.

Subject: Getting Screwed on a Out of State Porsche
I am hoping that there is something that I can do about a car I just picked
up
this weekend. I bought the car for $9500, but after driving it and taking a
more thorough time to investigate the problems, I think its worth more like
$6500. Besides that, I just don't like the problems I have to fix. Are
there
laws to protect consumers that purchase cars from individuals and find out
later
that the car was severely misrepresented. The car was purchased with cash
in SC
and I live in NC. I guess this thread could apply to Healey buyers out
there
that are thinking to buy a car without a PPI. I am most disappointed in
myself
for not getting the PPI done. I found the car on a Porsche Club website and
not
eBay, so right now I can only blame myself. There is no such thing as a
cheap
Porsche, Healey, Jaguar, etc, etc, etc.
