Dean -

If the noise goes away or changes its tone when you
step on the clutch pedal, it means your clutch
throwout bearing is shot.  Thankfully it just means
you need to replace the clutch throwout bearing (and
the rest of the clutch while you are at it), but not
the gearbox.
