spark plugs

I pull my plugs every once in a while to check how well things are burning.

A week ago I went for a 3 hr run on a hot and very very humid day. Ran well
but idle was off. Pulled the plugs only to find # 1 and 2 were gray brown in
colour as they should be and 4,5,6 were black with carbon (easily brushed
off). So what was-is-going on?
