There are some real "GOTYA'S" when trying to isolate a negative ground radio
in a positive ground car. One that is often forgotten is that the antenna
base is chassis ground positive in your case which makes the radio chassis
positive which makes it get real hot, just before your car bursts into
flames. There are ways to capacitive couple the antenna but it would take
some effort. The other problem is that with a floating chassis radio
installation you should expect a fair amount of ignition noise from the amp.
There are devices that will give you a floating system so that the radio can
be mounted directly to the vehicle chassis. If you get one make sure it can
handle the peak current that your amp is going to draw. We use a Wilmore
unit on fork lifts when we need to isolate and convert voltage, they work
good but are expensive.
