Oh ones of great knowledge....
We have to run a 190 degree thermostat in AXH12 to keep the engine
temperature up for normal driving. Unfortunately this means that after a
few hard racing laps residual engine heat pushes the temperature up to
about 230 unless a couple of cool down laps are run, usually not
possible in a Targa type of event.
To prevent boil over under these conditions I am running a 14 lb
radiator cap (we have a special custom built radiator) which solves that
problem but has created another.
The original water pump cannot handle this pressure and despite various
modifications that I have attempted it still dribbles at anything over
9lbs.
I am contemplating trying one of the currently available reproduction
pumps but I was wondering if anyone on the list has had one of these
apart and can tell me if they still use the original style of internals
or if a more modern style of seal has been used.
Many thanks,
Michael Salter
