I've never used it, and haven't had a problem with leaks.  If your
surfaces are smooth, flat and clean you should be OK.

If you want to use goop, I'd use Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket
(a real thin coat should do it).  This is pretty good stuff for dressing paper
gaskets and sealing machined surfaces.
