I completely agree with what Earl says below, I have owned many cars
equipped with SU carbs, I think it is somewhat the nature of the beast--hot
day 10-15 minute rest, hard start, rough running, goes away after fluids and
air have had a chance to circulate.
I have experienced it on Sprites, MGBs, TRs and now my Healey, they all
share a similar carb set-up, I think it is more or less inherent in the
system.
I spent a lot of time and resources trying to fix over the years (car
rebuilds, tune up, adjust carbs etc) to little effect. The only thing I
would say is that I think the effect on the cars I have owned has been worse
on tired engines in need of a rebuild than on fresh ones, but still there
even on the fresh ones. Don't know if the tired v. fresh (compression
differences?) conforms to the boiled carb theory.
I am sure some people have cars that don't do it, but a lot of them do. Is
not a modern fuel injected marvel.
