Hey Larry,

The other "Palm" machines have different problems so far.
The Sony Clio's use USB ports, not serial. So right now we
can't use them with a G-Cube, but there may be a USB to
serial converter out there somewhere that will make them
work. I have a pretty technogeeky customer with a Clio who
was unable to make it work, though, so I'm not optimistic on
that one.

The Handspring series uses a serial port, but they seem to
power the port in a strange way. Handspring owners report
that we have the connection but then lose it, and this cycle
just goes on and on. Obviously, we can't get data like
that! We sent a G-Cube to Handspring and for a while they
thought they were hot on the trail, but since then they no
longer respond to our e-mails. (They've also never returned
the G-Cube...hmmm.) There was a cable offered from an
aftermarket site that was supposed to make the Handspring
serial port compatible with modems, which made it seem as
though modems were having the same problem staying connected
to the Handspring, but when I called to get the cable, they
said they had pulled it back off the market because it
didn't work. So whatever the problem is, it affects more
than just the G-Cube.

So for now, the Palm machines need to be actual true Palm
machines. For price, look at the M100. It has the right
cable already included, while costlier Palms come with the
Cradle instead. The Cradle may be nicer for desktop use,
but the cable is what we need for using in a car or kart.
The 2 megs in the M100 amounts to about 4 hours of recording
time before you run out of memory, so it's more than
enough. You'll find new Palms for $90-99 everywhere. I
also recently purchased one for a customer from
http://www.half.com for $49 + shipping which worked great!
It was a factory refurb, and came with a 90 day warranty.

Hope this helps!
