I have rebuilt dozens of these, both for my race car and a number of stree=
t cars.=C2=A0 For the race car, I found a machinist (ex TR-3 racer) who cou=
ld drill and tap 2 additional 1/4" holes in the adapter plate & gearbox hou=
sing, to the inside of the 2 bottom bolts that are about 6" apart.=C2=A0 Th=
ese bolts are as close to the gearbox housing as he could get, and still fi=
t them in.=C2=A0 I think we used a short (3/4" long?) 1/4" grade 8 bolt wit=
h Locktite.=C2=A0 This seemed to reduce the leakage considerably.
If Bryan Brazelton has one of my old overdrive gearboxes around, perhaps he=
could check the exact location of the 2 additional bolts and let the FOT k=
now.=C2=A0 I know I sold at least one close ratio overdrive gearbox with th=
e car and a straight close ration 4 speed.=C2=A0 Don't know exactly what is=
 with the car today.
Cheers.
Jack Wheeler

I don't use the gasket because it can compress slightly when things get l=
oaded in use.I go metal on metal, chamfer/deburr/dress the mating faces, cl=
ean, Permatex "right stuff", good grade 8 bolts & red loctite.Done deal...

I removed my TR6 type A OD box out of the TR3 race car today. It was remove=
d because the last time on track, it was leaking badly.=20

To my surprise, I found that the OD adapter plate was very loosely attached=
to the rear of the transmission, in fact two bolts had completed backed ou=
t and I found them when I removed the accumulator piston cover. Upon furthe=
r disassembly I found that all of the adapter bolts were loose.=20

When I built this transmission 2 years ago, I used red locktite on all of t=
hese bolts. I also had use the thin gasket with hylomar. Has anyone every s=
een these bolts back out like this before?=C2=A0 Any suggestions on repair =
work to make sure this doesn=E2=80=99t happen again?

I=E2=80=99m thinking of drilling all bolt heads and safety wiring all of th=
e.=C2=A0 Have also thought of using helicoil on all of these since they are=
 threaded into aluminum.=20

Appreciate all thoughts on the mater.=20

Greg
