When I think of Syd Silverman, I remember a quiet, Guardian Angel of early =
vintage racing (late 1970s/early 1980s).=C2=A0 I am personally aware of sev=
eral times when an event or affair was experiencing a revenue shortfall, Sy=
d would step forward with his pen and check book and pick up the pieces.=C2=
=A0 And he did so quietly.=C2=A0 He was one of the most unpretentious peopl=
e I ever met.=C2=A0 The other things I remember were the incredible cars he=
brought to events to race.=C2=A0 Stuff you normally only saw in pictures o=
r behind velvet ropes in a museum.=C2=A0 He raced them.=C2=A0 Mike Silverma=
n told me that when his Dad finally sold his collection, every penny went t=
o charity.
