I guarantee you if you do not break in a new ring and pinion it will fail.
At Sebring in 1966 I had four cars, all TR-4 cars IRS. Due to a problem
with the limited slip devices the gears overheated, actually just the oil,
the gears were okay. BUT, could not start a race I knew we would never
finish. So, I sent back to Calif and had them send me three new diffs
with the proper ratios. Installed started right off with hard practice no
break in. No time for that.. By the 9th hour one diff had failed
completely (spare installed car finished), one was making a racket but I
thought would make it, the third limped around on the last lap at 15-20 mph
to finish and the gears were totally wiped out. When taking the diffs apart
in the shop the gears could offer a very close shave or even cut your
throat.

Meantime in 1963 I ran three cars same type diffs same ratios but they had
a 150 mile breakin in on Calif roads, then they were driven to the track
from Miami. Never a whimper from them, all perfect, all cars finished and
did the class, went went on to other racing after that.

*Never be beaten by equipment.*
