A good buddy of mine asked me to post this request, seems he has a need for=
a new smaller rack.
So a buddy bought an old sports racer and took it out for a shake down crui=
se. According to him, the steering in the car was "diabolical". He brought =
it around to the shop to see if anything seemed amiss.
Once we removed the front bodywork everything looked pretty normal, and wel=
l attached. I slid a jack under it and started to lift the front end...whoa=
!!! The toe in change had to be measured with a yardstick!
We fooled around with the rack mounts, the tie rod height and angle and got=
it down to 12" ruler issues!
No matter what we could do, it seemed the bumpsteer was just beyond belief.=
It looks like the rack that is in there is probably some kind of Triumph u=
nit...spit or GT6 ...maybe even TR4/6/ It measures 18.5" overall for the ho=
using with an approx 1" diameter tube.=C2=A0 At that length the tie rod art=
iculation is half way across the lower a-arms!
I'm guessing it needs a 13" - 15" outer tube to get it within inches of bum=
psteer to start.
SO, can youse guys check and measure whatever racks you have in you cars...=
mg tr rootes...whatever and let me know if you have anything approaching 14=
" tube size or so?
rackin my brain here ...
Im gonna post this on the TR group as well
Bill
