I have been towing with a 2011 f150 with the 3.5 eco boost engine. It is by f=
ar the best towing vehicle I have had. It has 77,000 miles with 17,000 mile=
s towing an enclosed trailer weighing about 5,000 lbs. The only repairs hav=
e been a set of brakes, tires and I just had to replace the spark plugs. Tu=
rbos are still working fine. I bought the truck for towing the fuel economy i=
s a bonus. The key to towing is torque. The Eco boost doesn't work harder th=
an a larger V8 because it has 420 ft/lbs at 2500 rpms. That's more torque th=
an the 5.7 hemi and the 5.0 ford. Most of the time towing I am crusing arou=
nd 75-80 at 1500, Pulling the trailer up from Georgia rt 81 with major hill=
s we were crusing around 75 and never exceeded 3,000 rpm. With old Dakota w=
ith the V8 I had to take an alternate route because it couldn't take the hil=
ls. I am a little concerned about the new aluminum body and would wait to se=
e how that plays out. But the drive train in this truck is awesome.
