dial bore gauges and micrometers are much better than p-gauge

this is a "tool" for reasonable estimates, not
repeatable engineering measurements.
it certainly has a place in engine work, but not if you are trying to work
out tenths of a thou.
for race applications, i first measure the main & rod tunnels, and correct
them as needed. Then fit the shells into the caps and measure them, then
grind the crank to suit.
Triumph rods are normally all over the place with sizes, so if you want a
perfect job, start there
