Greetings,
I have had a tough time with starter failure and fitment in my GT6.
My problem, probably somewhat unique, lies in the fact that the gear
reduction starters do not physically fit between my fat headers and the
engine plate even while taking advantage of the full rotational options of
the adjustable mounting face of the starter.
All that being said, I have been working on a few solutions that should
work... as long as I can determine the following:
Can someone out there enlighten me as to what an ideal final engagement
relationship of the drive pinion of the starter to the ring gear is (at
full pop starting position).
I have a ring gear that is .57" thick.
As the starter spins an pops out to engage the ring gear, how much of that
.57" should be meshed/engaged with the starter pinion as the car is turning
over?
I would assume all .57" should be engaged but want to be sure that full
coverage is not to much; causing difficulty to release properly.
Any thoughts or numbers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jason Ostrowski
