I'll keep yall posted. This was race weekend #9 on this build. I shift at
5500 rpm and oil pressure was 80 psi when all hell broke loose. I should
have the chance to pull the engine in the next two weeks. I'd like to see
the collective experience with crank failures. Specifically how long did
they last and root cause if known. I'd like data to help figure out if
using a stock crank should I be expecting a failure on a regular frequency.
That might convince me to spend a few grand for a stronger crank up front.
Stay tuned.
BTW... It broke after taking the checker in race 1 Saturday morning. At
least I beat all the other VA and VB guys. The timing of the failure was
unfortunate because I missed racing Bob Kramer, Bill Collins, and my Dad (+
2 Morgan guys Duncan and Pierce(SP?)) in the small bore festival race.

thanks for taking the time to do a race report...
it keeps everyone in touch and information has a chance to flow nicely.
knowing the failure modes is good communication, too.
How does the RMVR event at Hastings look for the CVAR guys and Triumphs
specifically?
Some of us have our eye out for another FOT gathering before the end of the
year.
VIR was great, Leguna will be very cool. Perhaps Hastings' RMVR event
in
the Heartland will complete the geography.

Just an update of the CVAR weekend and Eagles Canyon for the F.o.T. The
Southern Region of the Triumph Ghetto was in full force at Eagles Canyon
this
past weekend. Robert 'Fireball' Kramer's beautiful TR4 was flawless and
fast.
Bob Blake finally got his TR4 dialed in by Sunday morning. Seems the
condenser
wasn't grounded out well. Joe Hovey spun a bearing or two in the Spitwad.
Greg
Blake either broke a crank on his lovely TR3 or the flywheel came loose.
Bill
Collins finally got his little Spitwad dialed in. I drove our street TR6 up
Saturday morning and turned 100,000 miles on FM 730 headed to Azle Texas. I
GOPRO'd the event in the thickest fog or humidity I've seen here in a while.
I'll try to YOUTUBE it. The GT6 was broke but I still wrenched, crewed,
drank
beer, camped, and whined with the best of them.
Call it an historic weekend as Steve Coleman paid all expenses for Clive
Baker
and the grandson and great-grandson of Healey (Austin Healey) came over to
participate in our small British event on Saturday. The offspring of Healey
had
never raced and Steve Coleman paid for 3 days track time at VIR for these
two
to
get their novice licenses. Pinnacle group rented ECR Thursday and Clive
Baker
was reunited with the Daytona coupe Healey he drove at Dayton in the late
60's.
Steve Coleman has 2 of the 3 factory Healeys that were manual fuel injected,
one
beautiful coupe, and one roadster.
So for the small bore classic we had 48 cars on the track, Clive Baker, and
Healey's grandson in a members Sprite and the great-grandson in the Healey
roadster. I was passenger in the XKE V12 roadster pace car and got some
really
nice shots of the front 20 or so cars. Stay tuned, I'll photo bucket them or
something.
