for any fastener that has critical torque, the standard is to lubricate the
threads initially and re-torque by loosening and then retightening, ensuring
the fastener is moving when the torque spec is reached. The benefit of all
this is to reduce the variables that might leave fasteners with varied actual
clamping force. Make certain that you use a washer of proper hardness and
lubricate the faces of the washer. Also understand that a fifty year old stud
that didn't snap last time might never have been torqued with lubricated
threads. You WILL reach a higher degree of stretch with lubricated threads.
The prudent first step might be a full set of ARP studs.
