Hawk HT-10 in the front and HT-14 in the rear, unless the ambient temperature
is low then I will use HT-10 in the rear.B I have some EBC green stuff pads
for the rear if the surface is extremely slick.
Readily available for the spitfire as the girling calipers are used on Formula
Fords, and the rear I use a Wilwood dynalite caliper.

I'm using the regular Porterfield R-4, not the vintage version. B The vintage
pads are made to work at very low temperatures. B Before giving up on
Porterfield, I'd suggest trying the full race version. B I get about 6
weekends on a set of pads and a couple more on the rear shoes.

Subject: [Fot] Brake pad / shoe poll
Greetings FoT
I'm just taking a poll of what brake pads & shoes are being used. I have
been
using the Porterfield vintage compound on the front because of exceptional
initial bite. Unfortunately the last two times I raced the car on freshly
turned
rotors with new pads I end up cooking the pads & rotorsB in a single
weekend.
I'm not ready to throw Porterfield under the proverbial busB but so far I'm
not seeing
anything in the front end or calipers that would cause the problem.
Both times the rotors scored up pretty bad all the way across.
The pads have a gap at the outboard edge of the pads ( top )B and snug at
the inboard side.
The smell of cooked brakes is present and blue rings toward the inboard
edges
of the rotors. Chunks of pad missing, pads glazed. The rears have performed
great,
no problems. I had to use the brakes so hard over the 15th & 16th I still
have a prononced limp,
no joke. I do have Uncle Jack's spindles and have a real good pedal, no fade
or kickback.
Thanks for the input,
Jim G.
