I'm just taking the crank out today and measured the main cap bolts. They
are the original Triumph bolts as they are stamped "SPARTS" on the heads.
The dimensions from the bottom of the hex head to the end of the bolts are;
3.420
3.430
3.420
3.450
3.400
3.445
as measured with a calipers.
On a side note, when we took the clutch and flywheel off there was NO oil
whatsoever at the rear main bearing seal. Completely dry. When I pounded
the felt pieces soaked in Indian head in with the trapezoidal punches I
made, I had felt coming out between the main cap and the block on both sides
almost the entire length. I also used the Moss mandrel to locate the
aluminum bearing pieces. That's after I turned the mandrel down to the
correct diameter. It was too large as received and would have left a gap in
the aluminum seal. The downside of this is that the rear bearing block came
out REALLY hard. Broke my 1/4-20 pushers and had to modify the pusher block
to use 3/8-24 bolts to get it out. But it did seal, just as Kas said it
would in his e-mails and book!!

Subject: [Fot] TR-3/4 main cap bolts / ARP
Anyone have info on dimensions for TR-4 main cap bolts? The manual
shows 1/2" UNC but not the length. I'm trying to figure out what ARP
bolts you would buy to replace the stock bolts, and also one that's
1/2" longer to allow for "strapping" the center main. If I had the
dimensions (length) I could try to cross reference the engines that
ARP lists main cap bolts for.
Thanks in advance,
