This was a VSCDA event. I did the school on Friday and the race weekend
Saturday & Sunday with our TR4. Ryan crewed for me. We ran 12 sessions
total, 6 on Friday, 4 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday including the 15 lap
feature race. The car ran flawlessly. The only thing Ryan had to do, in
addition to checking things over between sessions, was add about a = quart
of oil and gas.
We were the only Triumph there. I had a good school and by the 6th session,
a short race for the students, I finally got the hang of it. I had some
good racing with the AH Sprites. There were 2 Sprites in the school and 5
in our group for Saturday and Sunday. When my tires had good grip I could
keep with the Sprites in the twisty part and get them on the straights. Had
some really good racing with a 1972 BMW 2002 on Sunday. We passed and
re-passed each other about 3 times. I think we upheld the honor of the
Triumph Marque.
I had a lot of trouble with turn 3; had 4 off there 3 times in the weekend.
One time I got into the sand trap and stopped about 10 feet from the tire
wall. Had to be towed out. Very grateful for the sand! And, its a lot
easier to clean out of the car than the kitty litter.
Cold and some rain on Friday for the school. We had rain and a wet track
for our practice starts. Just about everybody either went off or spun. I
kept it on the track with a couple of slides that I was able to catch and
one small tank slapper that I caught. Good experience.
Saturday and Sunday were great weather, sunny, cool and some breeze. All in
all, a fantastic weekend. In Saturdays timed practice I was within a
second of Ryans best time from last year so I figured I was in the ball
park. In the race Sunday, my best time and Ryans best time at Gingerman
were within 1/10th of each other, 1:51.5 or so. Were thinking thats about
what the car can do with the shaved street tires (Yokohama AVS ES100 in
195/60R15) weve been running to get some seat time and do the schools.
Were ready for some race tires now, hence the question about the Speedsters
in an earlier post.
