As I recall, the spindle is tapered where goes into the upright. On a taper
with a locknut, I usually tighten it into the taper good with a plain nut
then remove the plain nut and put the Nylok nut on. The taper should hold
it once it's snugged up good.
Could be your left caliper hanging up the pistons a bit and they are
dragging on the disc a bit all the time. Did you rebuild the calipers
recently with new seals or pistons? If not, might be worth checking. I
haven't noticed any difference in brake dust left to right but we haven't
run that many events either.
