Gary Hunter and I tore into the Group 44 GT6 this week. We have the car
nearly stripped down and are discovering both good and bad. We also picked up a
1969 GT6 parts car. Looks like we are going to have to find a couple of doors,
as the parts car doors are rusty and the original car had its doors gutted in
later life. It is clear from photos that we need to put all the glass back in
the doors, as that is the way they ran it in 1969. Hate to put glass back into
a car... maybe we willl leave the driver's window out.
I am still lookig for more info and photos (especially a decent interior and
underhood shot) of this car. We will have web updates on our site pretty
regularly starting next week and are shooting to have the car done for Amelia
Island, as we have been invited to the Group 44 reunion.
Did some research on the race history of this car. Wow, during both the 69
and 70 seasons it won almost everytime they took it off the trailer. Looks like
Bob Tullius, Carl Swanson, Brian Fuerstenau and Mike Downs all drove the car.
According to factory newsletters, one of the few time it lost, was to some guy
named Bob Sharp in a 240Z. Its been real fun to reserach this history. I
still need to find the June and Nov. 1970 TSOA newsletters. The .pdfs I found
at
Temple of Triumph were linked to the wrong files for these two months.
Has anyone ever put a whole list of Group 44 cars together and does anyone
know where they all are today?
