Hi gang,
I'm working on replacing my Spitfire's transmission and would like to
put it together with GT6 gears in it. I'll say up front that this is
perfectly legal in the group I race with.
The Spitfire's input shaft is 6.125" from case to end of the pilot shaft
and the GT6's input shaft is 7.125". I assume the way to go is to cut
the GT6 shaft down to 6.125" and turn 1" of the splined area down. Are
there other ways to go here?
If that's the way to do it, is it necessary to machine the splines back
another inch or are the splines long enough to work with an inch cut off
of them?
