Glen - I just got back from VIR - so missed this thread. Is line boring common
and/or advisable for a race engine? Other amici comments - how many line bored
blocks are out there?? What is actually modified to make the rear seal center
up after a line bore?
Thanks
Dennis
b.t.w. - if you are ever looking for an early spring event, or if VIR is on
your list of tracks to race - Mike Jackson's VDCA event is a must do.

Are the main seal upgrade kits worth the trouble/expense?
In my opinion yes but the housings sometimes need a bit of fitting,
depending on how much the crank center has been changed due to line-boring.
My reply wasn't very clear so let me add that that isn't so much the crank
center being changed that affects the fitting of it, it's mainly that when the
housing bore is redone it closes up the housing bore into which the seal
housing registers. It makes it slightly elliptical & the OD of the seal housing
is essentially too big to fit properly. They usually need some metal removal
in order to get them concentric with the shaft & a good fit in the housing
bore.
