A few of us were wandering in the paddock at about 10:30 PM Saturday when
someone from the track told us that strong winds were on the way. We started
picking up chairs, gas cans, and other loose stuff, but as it turned out, we
only had about 90 seconds warning. Suddenly the rain was flying sideways, and
so was the canopy that housed about 9 TRiumphs. If Ernie Husmann hadn't gotten
a strap on Susan Kahler's Spit roll bar, the canopy would probably still be
airborne. As it was, many of the poles were bent beyond re-use and some of the
tarp was ruined. BUT, no one was injured (we can still run for cover in a hurry
when we need to), and almost all of the cars were undamaged. A silver sharp
looking GT6, paddocked away from the TRiumph Big Top, (sorry I don't know whose
it was), had some damage to its windshield from some flying debris.
And then Sunday the weather was beautiful again. Until I tried to land at
O'Hare.
GREAT GREAT event. Bob Kramer and Larry Young, along with CVAR and the owners
of Hallett, deserve our gratitude.
