Generally the reasons for big lines are not purely to match pump flow rate.
They are:
-The size of the fittings on the coolers. These are usually -10 or so.
-The length of the lines. Flow restriction increases with the length of the
lines. Oil lines tend to be fairly long, so it's prudent to make them big.
-Added oil capacity. Filling the radiator and lines take a quart or so.
That's generally a good thing.
-They look cooler. Skinny little lines will make your car look like it was
built by a girly-man.
