Lifters, however, are

Nothing in between. Flat is good, domed is bad. Flat rotates, domed or
dished stalls and wears.
The new lifters I have, and the old (good) ones I have checked, are not
exactly flat. The base of the lifter is slightly "domed", with the center
being
about .001"-.002" "taller. I thought that was what helped them rotate in the
bore.
