As the subject line says I'd like some information regarding Synthetic oils.
It's not for any Triumph but rather to use in my Daughters 2000 Jetta which
uses oil after 50,000+ miles. We bought it used and it was a lease car. I have
suspicions that the original owner never changed the oil which I understand is
not uncommon for some folks who lease cars. Buyer beware and all that stuff. I
was told by a friend who I don't always think of as an authority that
switching to Synthetics can slow down the oil usage. Any truth to this?
You see my daughter has another problem. She never seems to have the time to
check the oil what with going to the Ohio State Football home games and all
those other things that seem to occupy her time. She's a starving Graduate
Student. I think the starving part is so she has money for the Football
tickets. It's a Dad's prerogative to say things like this don't you know. So
in addition to using oil the level doesn't get checked often enough either
which leads to hotter running which leads to oil burning..........you get the
picture. I've checked the oil when I see her and on occasion there is no oil
showing on the dipstick. 2+ quarts low is not unusual.
So the question is will using Synthetic Oil help or is she just burning a more
expensive oil? If it helps then it's less expensive than a blown engine.
