I use manifold washers ie MGB, Midget, etc, the thick ones, & turn down the
OD to fit.
Part of the problem is that on some of the axles, there isn't a large enough
boss (bearing area) on the axle for the yoke assy to register against, so
between initial torque & normal loads the yoke wants to work up the shaft &
consequently reducing/eliminating the bolt torque. Then things usually
break....
