As a sad note to the Great Race this year, Tom McRae, the founder was
recently killed in a motorcycle accident. I ran a short touring stint 4
years ago when it left from Atlanta and it is fun for a short time. If you
knew how tedious it is to keep track of all that you have to, you would be
overly impressed with how close they come to the exact time they need to
win. 4,000 miles and be only seconds of the correct time. Amazing. They used
to allow up to 1972 model cars enter the touring segment. Check their web
site to see if they still do and give it a try. You will be surprised how
hard it is to "race" at no more than 55 mph max. Barry
