lots of folk have written to ask about my gearbox conversions. this is some
info on what we do .....................
As well as being TR owners/racers, we have an auto engineering business in
Ipswich , Queensland, Australia. we do lots of race car stuff and since
several of us have been involved with TR's since they were new, we have got
involved in lots of conversions.
the most common job these days are 2.7litre injected engines for road use
and occasional club track days. we built 5 in a batch, about 6 months ago.
we also get quite a few unleaded conversions to heads as we cant buy
hi-octane leaded fuel any more here.
for the gearboxes, we bore out the cases and fit taper roller bearings at
both ends. this requires 2 special layshafts making, plus end-float
adjustment and sealing arrangements. it is a big job, but we have done
quite a few over the years. we also used to do them for daimler darts &
Stags which have almost the same box as TR, but a V8 in front. they die
real quick when used agressively. we have also done a couple on single rail
GT6 type boxes. these are a bit harder due to limited case room, but work
out OK.
for a "big" box (TR etc), all this takes about 20 hours machine shop time
if you have all the drawings to hand. if they are o/d boxes, there is a bit
of extra work to the adaptor plates to allow for the rear taper bearing
will happily do a batch if there is enough interest from US racers. it
would not be sensible to consider shipping 1-offs.
we are also looking to get another batch of close ratio gears cut.
interest?????????????
