A cople of items that I've learned about our Southwick axles --
1. I tried to take off my brake drums for winter maintenance. One came off
fine. The other (aluminum) drum had become much too friendly with the nub
on the end of the axle (steel). The car has been wet a number of times so
that contributed to the electrolysis. It was not fun. I'm going to put a
little never seize on the shoulder when I put it back together, but I know
that stuff gets really runny when hot. Anyone know of a high temp
anti-seize compound?
2. At least one Lister has found the the ball bearings on the axles needed
to be replaced on his car. it's a good thing to check. All these ball
bearings have a little bit of slop in them even when new, but his had
noticeably more slop after several years' use.
