In any business deal, the bottomline is whether the parties involved in
the transaction are acting in good faith. The problems described in many of the
FOT emails can happen just as easily with transaction within the United
States as they can with international transactions.
It seems that you would be well advised to find someone with real
experience in international transactions with Japan to help you with the deal.
They
will likely provide you with the best advice as to how to handle the situation.
These type of transactions occur on a regular basis for cars costing alot
more than $10K.
One option is for you to call a firm like Symbolic Motorcars that are
involved in international transactions. They may be able to put you in touch
with
firms specializing in import/export of cars from Japan.
It is a good time to sell to an overseas buyer. Our dollar has lost so
much value relative to other currencies that our cars are relative bargains.
An
overseas buyer with Euros has 25% more purchasing power now tha five years
ago. Do not know how much Dollar has sunk against Japanese currency.
Add to that one could probably could not build your car in the US`for two
to three times the price that you are asking, your car is probably a bargain
for an overseas buyer. Parts in their country may even be more expensive.
They probably buying at less than 30% what it would cost them to build
one.
