Mythical.
The history part is pure goof--you don't have to do very much to even poorly
refined gasoline to make it's octane increase, just dump in some plain old
tetra ethyl lead. Some magical catalyst that happens to be invented just in
time to deal with the crisis? Any JC Whitney catalog can be depended on for
better entertainment than this one.
