At least the oil pressure seems to be better with a Greg sandwich plate, Ken
G. clearance oil pump, oil galley pressure indication, new oil cooler and
lines, accusump hooked directly into the oil galley, and back to the stock
oil
filter in place of the billet filter. The engine has not been thoroughly
tested
yet, since I was in the race finish mode by keeping the Rpm's down and
trying
to stay out of people's way (plus the overdrive quit working again).
On Saturday, I slid around in the rain while plenty of cars wrecked and went
off of the track, and managed to finish third. One guy helped me out by
getting himself disqualified somehow.
On Sunday, I figured that the old TR-3 finally met it's Waterloo after being
on the track for the past 39 years. A sports racer decided to run into me
in
the wiggle at the end of the back straight. I had put a fiberglass hood and
trunk lid on the car, but fortunately the rest of it is still metal. He
totally
crushed the left rear fender, crinkled some other metal beyond the fender,
bent a new Circle Racing wheel, ruined a spring, and possibly the watts
link. I
will have to look for other stuff.
The sports racer may be totally trashed, without being knowledgeable about
these cars. It looked like he mashed most of the fiberglass panels and bent
some frame members.
Our son, William G. managed to finish two races with his RX-7 Mazda. Penn
State professor, Dan Styduhar, who restored a basket case TR-3, met us at
the
track. He was a big help for both of us, which was very much appreciated.
Has anybody ever had trouble getting their cars through tech inspection at
the Glen? This one person seemed to be going to great efforts trying to
keep me
from participating. He was writing up things on the roll cage, which has
passed tech for the past 15 years, and finally agreed to let me run after I
installed bigger washers under the seat, seat belts, and shoulder harness.
There
seemed to be several other people complaining about him where we were
camped.
