Open events like MO and others are an invitation to predators. These
oppurtunists are clever enough to pass and blend among racers without
attracting too much scrutiny. They may even talk to you. "Very nice
car"--- "When are you going out to race?" Their difference is that they
are KEENLY aware of their surroundings and the likelyhood of being caught is
minimal. They (not a single person) likely have a spotter or two on simple
radios and ear plugs. They are likely to observe patterns of activity and
strike when the time is ripe. What could be more perfect...-They have a
schedule of events. They spot the "loner" or one that does not leave anyone
behind at the paddock to guard .and just count down when to hit.
Security presence was massive at the Turstin Marine event several years
ago.. this spectator event had over 30,000 spectators and the venue was very
crowded. Perfect for this sort of thing. Despite walking presence by many
Marine MP's two or more abreast almost all the time on the air base.....
billfolds were reported lost.
Racer be aware.
