Several of you have expressed interest in this, so I'll send this to the
whole list(s).
The Seller of the tires is Roland Hahn, from Ohio. He's offered to send me
some references from some SCCA management types as evidence that he's not a
crook. (Pssst, Buddy! Wanna buy some tires?)
He tells me the tires are BFG R1s made for the Spec Racer Fords, which have
now switched back to Yokohama tires. The R1s are between 2 and 3 years old.
They were stored by BFG until January 2002 and are now stored in a barn.
All the tires are unused. Drys are molded at 3/32 tread depth, rains are
full tread depth. The rains are a different tread pattern than the drys.
He has 700 or so 185/60-13s to sell, all of them dry versions. He has 300
or so 205/60-13s to sell, 100 rains, 200 drys.
I'll probably buy a couple of sets of tires -- if nothing else, I can use
then on my street GT6 and at $25, I can't go too far wrong (unless it's
scam, of course). If we put together a 100-tire purchase, we can get 100
tires (of varying descriptions and shipped to individual purchasers) for
$2,000 ($20 per tire, for those of us who are math impaired).
If you want to try to put together a 100-tire purchase, let me know and I
can collect the information.
