Hello,
I know this subject is getting old but... I pondered over which SUV tow
vehicle to purchase back in 2000. After months of asking questions of
other "towers" at racing events, I bought a Dodge Durango with the big
5.9 L engine and tow package. It has not let me down. I tow a double
axle open trailer -- with race car (1959 Peerless GT) it weighs in at
4000 lbs. I can travel at 55-65 mph and get between 12-13 mpg.... Yes,
I was surprised too!
Today, if I was purchasing an SUV, I would look into the new Chevy Envoy
with the 6L engine. It's been rated very high by the trade magazines
for towing.... But, the Durango is a very good choice also if you want
the "old" horsepower and drivetrain technology...easy to work on
yourself.
Best regards,
Ron Cressey
