I still use my [t]rusty 1991 Ford Explorer, 4.0 V-6 and five-speed manual,
full towing package (specially ordered from Ford) to tow a large, heavy, ugly
and very useful single-axle homebuilt (by someone else long before I got it)
trailer. In the car's younger days, I could sail along forever with a
Spitfire or larger Triumph on the trailer, in 5th gear, air conditioning full
blast, etc. Now, after 196,000+ miles, it's getting a little tired (4th gear
on most hills now). But I am still on the original clutch, and I still get
around 20 mpg normally and around 18-19 mpg towing.

*Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet?
*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er,
Triumph Herald engine with wings.
