Hi Gang
Despite problems with weepers on the new Rockingham oval which led to Thursday
and Friday practice sessions being cancelled the first 'indy' race in England
was awesome. It was a race long duel between Gil de Ferran and Kenny Brack.
Brack took the lead at the end of the penultimate lap then de Ferran went by
on the outside of the last turn to win the race by .63 sec. What a great bunch
of drivers they all are -fun loving and engaging. The press interview at the
end of the race was a delight to witness as all three podium finishers were
obviously real buddies (Helio Castroneves was relegated to 4th place later -
having overtaken on a yellow flag putting Cristiano de Matta in 3rd). I
managed to speak to Alex Tagliani who was unwittingly involved in that
terrible accident with his close friend Alex Zanardi at the Berlin oval.
Tagliani was obviously still very concerned at Rockingham but was relieved
when he heard the news on Saturday that Zanardi had been brought out of an
induced coma and was making a strong recovery and getting better by the hour -
wonderful news indeed.
By the way, Julia and I had Jim Hill stay over with us for a couple of days
prior to his visit to the Goodwood festival - great fun but it took us three
days to clean the house up!!
Best wishes
Paul
