Hi Matthew,

For some reason, the FOT list seems to be presently rejecting my replies. I
will try to copy and paste into this message my old message:

This message came back to me. Maybe I have been black balled off of the list.

I was using this type of diff back in the late 60's when it was illegal to
weld solid the stock units. I still have it today in a drawer (minus the
center floating slug). It was sawed in half and welded into a TR-2
differential when I wondered why I couldn't set the axle float. I went to
Mid-Ohio (old track), threw oil all over the track, and was spinning out --
another story.

I was advised at that time to go to the locked rear end. The clutches can
throw you, or cause spinouts. Using a locked rear end is like having a big
roller behind you -- helps keep you going in the direction that you want.

Lots of people are now using the positraction type rear ends. I can only
assume that the more scientific people have advanced over my ancient
learning's.
