Paul may be aggressive on the race track and he is good at the wheel, but
he is very much a gentleman and quite unassuming.
While attending the CART race that ran through the streets of Denver in
'90 - '91 as an owner of the Newman - Haas team, Paul had occasion to be
moving about through one of the grade crossings around the track that
were opened between sessions.
Paul was approaching the gate at one of those crossings when the word
came to close it. The gate keeper recognized Paul several people back in
line and offered to allow him through after the gate was supposed to be
closed. Paul declined the offer saying I can wait, you have a schedule to
keep.
The man is a class act. If anyone can win a championship while in his
seventies, he can.
