FOTers
Last night, Joe circulated a list of tracks and in some cases, specific
events at tracks that were recommended for consideration FOT
regional/national gatherings. Steve Benford and Joe Curry will be converting
the original FOT Survey to a text file and circulating to FOT so it is
available to those of you without Microsoft excel. Those of you with
Microsoft Excel can still access both reports at locations setup be Mark.
The original thought behind this whole effort was to start simple. Select
one race that FOTers in each geographic region would make a special effort to
attend during the 2001 season for the simple purpose of gathering and having
fun. It is really up to the people in that region as to whether they want to
try to work with event promoter to do anything more (e.g. all Triumph races).
From a practical standpoint, I think the selection of the regional
gatherings is very much a function of someone stepping forward to say they
will be the "lead" person for a particular race event. If we keep things
simple, this "lead" persons effort is obtaining race event information,
distributing race event info to FOT members, and organizing a spot for FOT
to gather at the race event.
The most feasible events would seem to be those that have historically
received a good Triumph turnout (e.g. MG-TR Challenge at Button Willow). I
suggest the simplest approach to move forward is for FOTer to volunteer to be
"lead" person at specific race events. I suggest that you do that by simply
sending a message out over fot@auto.team.net.
We have no rules here, so if two or more of you want to share
responsibilities for a certain event, great. Also if someone thinks it is
feasible to setup an autocross near one of the race events, lets hear from
you.
At this point, I assume everyone is aware of our attempts to gather at
MidOhio in 2002 as a "national". Joe Alexander is the lead person for that
race event. I have made him aware of the people who have volunteered to help
setup an autocross at a nearby airport.
I have personally reached the limits to which I can spend on this
particular matter, so the torch needs to be picked up at this point by those
of you willing to be the lead person at particular events.
Regards, Cary
