I would think that Steve Earle would be just as interested in the T-Bolt
as he would the Group 44 TR6. The T-Bolt is a relatively rare and unique
automobile. The Group 44 TR6 is important because of its race history.
Very honestly, the Monterey event is something that I try not to miss as
a spectator because Steve Earle does a great job of presenting a mixture of
rare, unique, and important race cars. It is what makes the event one of the
best spectator events in Vintage racing. Every year that I go to the event I
see many cars that I never knew existed and learn more about motorsports
history.
The reality of the situation is that the event depends on having an elite
status to draw these rare, unique, and important cars. The field frequently
has car that transported from Asia and Europe. And part of the draw is that
some of them get selected to be exhibited at Pebble Beach car show on Sunday.
The bottom line is that Steve Earle knows his market. And this year's
specials may be the one of the few times the feild has a significant number
of Triumph powered automobiles. So get those applications in as soon as
possible. I would sure like to see them.
I am not very well informed on Triumph events, so maybe there is truly a
national annual event for Triumph racers and autocrossers. I have been of the
opinion for sometime that FOT should consider working with VTR and others to
create a combination autocross, concours and race event for Triumphs (if not
MGs & British cars in general). I think Joe's efforts to organize efforts at
Mid-Ohio are a good starting point. And FOT membership could certainly field
a nice selection of automobiles.
We could create the event so it has different eras of race cars, so post
1972 cars could appear as they where raced. Hardy could get the white car out
of the basement. Ted, Vernon and Bill could run their TR8s. Current SCCA
racers could also participate, so we could see different eras of these cars.
And more of the triumph racers of times past might be motivated to make
an appearance. Who knows, maybe Tullius Group 44 TR7/4 might just appear to
seek revenge on Bill's PLN's TR6. Garbage trucks might appear with signs
stating that TR7s can really beat TR6s.
