Ted, Thanks very much for the reply. I can understand the why the % of tooth
engagement is not 100%, after reading your E-mail. This explanation makes
logical sense. The explanation I received from the supplier of the starter was
lacking in substance and credibility.

peter, this is our starter. we originated and developed this product. the
pinion gear should engage a mnimum of 40% of the ring gear and o more than 60%
of the ring gear. any more engagement could result in the pinion not releasing
from the ring gear when the engine starts. please let me know if we can supply
