Amici,
Greetings from a lurker on the list. (Mostly I haven't been sure I can live
up to the standards of knowledge, experience and wit that prevail.)
This year I'm planning on taking the plunge from autocrossing to
wheel-to-wheel racing for the first time. While the requisite nerves of
steel and precison of control appear to be commonplace amongst the FOT, it
will be a new experience for me. My experience with Blackhawk Farms and Road
America has been only a few laps at a time to date.
I've enjoyed autocrossing my TR6 for some years and although it's
well-developed for such purpose, it's obviously a long way from a race car.
On listing the tasks to make the car actually race-worthy (let alone
competitive, a lesser concern) it becomes evident that (a.) it would hurt to
strip out a nice solid street TR and weld up a full cage, etc. and (b.) a
neophyte racer would surely be better off with a car that's half-way to
being sorted.
With this in mind, I'd appreciate any leads on relatively economical
Production or Vintage TR's for sale, preferably TR3-6 since I'm more
familiar with the bits. Our budget can support only 4 digits worth of
dollars because fiance Gretchen's going to race her Mini too! I'm in
Madison, WI but would drive a fair piece for a good car. I'm hoping that
with several months to scout around before the snow melts, something will
emerge. The Internet lists have a few Spridgets but not much for TRs - I'd
hate to change brands after 20+ years of happy Triumph-ing. Thanks all!
