If the Gel-Cels are being used today in regular production vehicles
(e.g. the Mazda) then how is such a low charge rate kept
under control in the event that an owner leaves the lights on
and the battery is discharged by a significant amount?
If the car with the "weakened" battery is then started, surly the
Mazda's charging system will charge at a rate greater than
0.5 to 1.0 amp.
Simply starting a car, especially in very cold weather, can
discharge a battery to the point where the typical charge
system will be operating at MAX output for at least several
minutes after the vehicle has been started.
Curious?

Good question.
I note that the Moss USA web-site says it is fine to do a fast charge on one
of those WestCo's, whereas many others say not.
I personally preferred to stay on the side of caution after having just laid
out a lot of money for that battery, however, it is now history as I have
returned it to Moss UK,
just in case it is not recoverable from zero volts.
A warranty is not much use if the company has ceased to exist after all.
I have today made contact with the company here that supplies Optima (real
Gel-Cell Batteries), and hope to try and get along there this Thursday
afternoon to collect one.
I have had a lot of help from list and FOT members concerning Optimas sizes,
prices, model numbers and performance.
What a terrific bunch of guys!
In this era of email and ecommerce, the companies which make good products
will surely do well, whilst those who do not may soon fall by the wayside!
I will report back to the list with my Optima discoveries!
