Mentally I am geared toward , "The Standard Motor Company, Ltd".
At one time this was comprised of "Standard Cars", "Ferguson Tractors", and
"Triumph Cars" as I understand the history into the late 50s.
But mentally, I have been known to miss a gear from time to time.
However, I like the appellation "Standard".
(Like "E-Type" sounds a whole lot better than "XKE"....that was one for the
San Francisco area)
Joe..
Finally.......
The Jack and Joe Show is leaving for Las Vegas Motorspeedway by Wednesday.
Jack is appearing at one of the lounge shows with his vocal stylings....(we
are going to set up a lounge in the pits....once again...there has to be FOT
musical talent coming out of SoCal) The gauntlet has been thrown...again.
Me? I just carry Jack's sheet music and do a little promoting.
"Here's Jack!!! Straight From Indianpolis Raceway Park-Saturday Night Live".
Digitally mastered tapes available for $10 of the IRP Entertainment
Extravanganza. (IRPEE)
Tape also includes Top Ten artist from the 50s (VSCDA Chief of Tech), and
Team Thicko Flounder (Chicago's own Elvis Impersonator)
I am looking forward to seeing this tape as I was not there. (See the English
Channel for reason why...Kent and I were in Lost Wages about this
time...neither of looking for discount coupons for the "Chicken Ranch", I'll
have you know)

Not too far off the truth. TTBOMK Triumph had been in feast
and famine mode for quite a long time with more of the
famine than the feast. As for Standard buying the company to
improve 'a stodgy image' that sounds a bit like Mr Robson's
usual dig at Standard. Given that the Standard name didn't
enjoy any popularity in North America (that's why the
majority of its products were always badged as Triumphs),
it's worth mentioning that its cars pre-war were far from
stodgy by the norms of the day. As an aside, the Jaguar XK
engine (not in twin cam form) was essentially a Standard
unit. It's also worth mentioning that had it not been for
Standard's (and later Triumph's) CEO John Black, Triumph
would have stayed 'vapourised' as of Nov 14 1940. You won't
find any accolades passed in John Black's direction in any
of Robson's books for the simple fact that GR is clearly not
well-disposed towards him - and I don't think he ever has
been. FWIW, there are a number of former key company people
who do not agree with everything that Robson claims to be
the gospel truth. To my certain knowledge, at least three of
them are on this list and there are a number of other
sympathisers with similar dispositions.
