I worked on Scott's Cd150s to set them up for Solo II. I tried raising
the float setting, lowering the float setting and still had the problem
of starving and dumping fuel out of the bowl vent on left handers then
running out of revs at about 4800RPM.
When the engine ran out of RPM, it seemed to drop a cylinder or two.
I did a plug check on a back road just as this happened and found that
the plugs were fine (nice light tan) on cylinders 1,2,3,4, and gas fouled
on 5 and 6. I tested the distributor on my machine to see if I was getting
spark scatter or cut out at that RPM and found that it worked fine to over
6000RPM. I tried another distributor, same thing. Tried new wires, same thing.
Tried hotter, colder plugs, same thing. We ran out of time and had to use it
the way it was (Drivers School). I finally put pipes in the bowl vents to direct
the overflow of fuel away from the header. I am completely baffaled by this
problem.
Scott and I took the engine out to day to rebuild it as it was very tired.
Any ideas?
